Bearkats Take Six-Shot Lead into Day Two of the Men’s Golf Championship

They will be the first teams to tee off at 7:30 a.m. Nicholls (+21, 309), Abilene Christian (+26, 314) and Southeastern Louisiana (+29, 317) finished fourth through sixth after the first day. The Lions are tied for sixth place with Central Arkansas, but the fifth player comparison gave SLU the advantage for pairing. They will tee off beginning at 9 a.m. Noah Steele (68), the Bearkats’ sophomore from Kingston, Ontario, Canada, sits in first for the medalist honor thanks to back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven and his play on the par 4s. He shot four-under for the first round and averaged a 3.70 on the day on par 4 holes, going three-under. He has a three-stroke lead over McNeese’s Ian Berrigan (71) and Central Arkansas’ Lewis George (71). Stephen F. Austin’s Angelo Leyvani (72) and McNeese’s Blake Elliot (72) are four strokes back from the lead, each carding an even par for the day. Sam Houston, McNeese and Stephen F. Austin (+19, 307) will tee off together for the second consecutive day. The teams entered the tournament seeded No. 1-3, respectively, and finished the day in that order.
