Which Big 12 Teams Are Most Efficient in the Red Zone?

first_imgRecently we looked at how effective Oklahoma State has been on red-zone trips this year. I am using a stat I call PPR or “points per red-zone attempt”.The stat basically shows how good a team is at getting touchdowns (six points) instead of settling for field goals (three points) once they get into the red-zone.I thought it would be helpful to go a little more in-depth on the stat and in the spirit of context, compare the Cowboys to the rest of the Big 12. Here I compared this year’s Cowboys to previous OSU teams. Here are the current PPR rankings for the Big 12.b12pprIowa State is higher than I would have thought and Baylor and West Virginia are lower. Of course this is only part of the equation. We need to look at how many times each team gets to the red zone in order to use that effectiveness. Here are the red-zone attempts per game.b12rzaSo, while Iowa State is third in red-zone points per attempt, they make it to the red zone less than three times per game, better than only Kansas. Baylor hasn’t been the most efficient as far as touchdowns to field goals inside the 20-yard line, but they get there over five times per game, meaning more points. The Cowboys went a perfect three-for-three in the red zone last week against Kansas State and didn’t attempt a single field goal. They’ll need to continue that uptick in efficiency if they want to keep up with the remaining three offenses on their schedule.Check out my look at PPR numbers as they pertain to a grading Big 12 defenses. If you’re looking for the comments section, it has moved to our forum, The Chamber. Jamaica Encouraged to Develop Health Tourism Industry

first_imgExecutive Director of the Washington, D.C., Board of Medicine, Dr. Jacqueline Watson, says Jamaica can establish and operate a thriving health tourism industry, mainly in the area of health care.Making a presentation on June 17, at a forum exploring the diversity of Jamaica’s tourism product, at the 5th Biennial Diaspora Conference, being held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, Dr. Watson pointed out that the services generally sought by Americans for health care include orthopaedic surgeries, hip replacement, and dental surgery.“Health and wellness integrated care, that is where Jamaica has a distinct advantage, and we have to start the medical tourism development from a health perspective,” she told her audience. She urged the country to prepare for the new US health care plan slated to come on stream during 2015, as Jamaica could attract many persons who will then have health insurance.“People travel, and the main reason they are travelling is for health reasons, and they choose an attractive destination. Depending on the services you are offering, it can certainly be a boom to the economy,” Dr. Watson said.Explaining the concept of health tourism, she described it as the movement of people from a “highly developed area of the world for medical health care, usually to find treatment at a lower cost.”Dr. Watson pointed out that over 50 countries have identified medical tourism as a national industry, adding that Jamaica would be an ideal destination, given the fact that medical training in Jamaica is in keeping with standards in the US and the United Kingdom. For his part, Vice President at JAMPRO, Claude Duncan, told the forum that many persons from abroad, including the Caribbean are currently utilizing health facilities in Jamaica. He said that insurance companies in those countries encourage persons to travel overseas for medical procedures, as it is less costly to them, while increasing earnings for the host country.Meanwhile, noted Jamaican Scientist, Professor Henry Lowe, said the investment opportunities in health are enormous, and persons should seize them.Contact: Garfield L. Northstar Travel Group Acquires Schneider Publishing Assets

first_img That aforementioned new sports division, consisting, as of now, of the TEAMS conference and SportsTravel, will live within Northstar’s Meetings Group, which also includes Meetings & Conventions and Successful Meetings, among other properties. Both Association News and Meetings Quest will also apparently fall into the Meetings Group’s portfolio, albeit not as part of the sports division. Secaucus, NJ-based Northstar Travel Group has acquired the assets of L.A.-based Schneider Publishing, including a trio of annual events and a pair of related media brands, the company announced today. Presented by SportsTravel and held annually since 1998, TEAMS attracts over 1,000 executives and event managers from the sports-event and hospitality industries, according to Northstar, while Meetings Quest — presented by Association News — is the longest-running trade show series for meeting planners in the U.S. Schneider first purchased Meetings Quest and integrated it with its existing Association News brand in 2013. “Finding the right strategic partner with the necessary capabilities over a range of areas — event management, digital media, and database marketing, to name a few — was important to me to scale the business,” said president and CEO Timothy Schneider, who will join Northstar as chairman of a new sports division. “Working with Tom [Kemp], David [Blansfield] and the Northstar team, we’ll be leveraging Northstar’s strengths to enhance and expand our offerings in service of our customers.” Also included in Northstar’s purchase is the Shamrock Shootout Golf Classic, an annual tournament started in 1987 by Meetings Quest founder Jimmy Dunn and previously held in Washington, D.C. each March, but relocated to Las Vegas for the fall of 2017. Included in the sale are SportsTravel and Association News magazines, as well as their respective live-event counterparts: the TEAMS Conference & Expo and Meetings Quest. It’s the third major acquisition for Northstar Travel Group since the company was itself acquired by Wasserstein Partners last June, following a pair of data-focused tech investments by SaaS subsidiary Inntopia.last_img read more

This was done after both the allies of BJP – Goa Forward Party’s Vijai Sardesai and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP)’s Sudin Dhavalikar – were offered the posts of deputy chief ministers. To lay claim on the state’s top position, the 45-year-old had the backing of Nitin Gadkari and BJP president Amit Shah. Gadkari, who was a key player in bringing the allies together, told Indian Express, “Our alliance partners and MLAs are going to meet the Governor. Signed letters establishing our majority will also be submitted to the Goa Governor.” Goa Chief minister Pramod SawantTwitterThe swearing-in ceremony was presided by Goa Governor Mridula Sinha.”I don’t know if I will be able to fill in the shoes of Manohar Parrikar, he was a very tall leader …It is a very big responsibility that the party has given me. I will try my best to fulfil it. I am what I am today because of Manohar Parrikar,” Pramod Sawant was quoted as saying by Economic Times. AFP/Getty ImagesA two-time MLA from Sanquelim constituency, Sawant is an Ayurvedic medical practitioner and his wife Sulakshana Sawant is the president of BJP Goa Mahila Morcha. She is also a chemistry teacher at Shri Shantadurga Higher Secondary School in Bicholim.Sawant was a close confidant of Manohar Parrikar. During Parrikar’s last days, he had asked Sawant to perform all state duties, including hoisting the flag on national days. He has the strong support of the RSS and this closeness, according to ET, is one of the reasons why MGP and GFP did not support him in the primary stages. He has been a member of the RSS since his childhood and was also a Yuva BJP leader during his adolescence. Sawant’s swearing-in came at a period of high drama after Parrikar’s death with rumours floating around that two MGP MLAs had defected to BJP on Monday morning. However, after Sawant was sworn in, he clarified that there was no defection and that the BJP and the MGP were allies. At 1.50 am on Tuesday, Sawant was sworn in along with 11 others to form a fully functioning Goa cabinet. However, with the death of Parikkar and Francis D’Souza and the resignation of two Congress lawmakers, the Goa Assembly population has dwindled to 36 MLAs. Rajapakse to step down Saturday

first_imgSri Lanka’s president Maithripala Sirisena (R) listens to former president Mahinda Rajapakse. AFP File PhotoSri Lanka’s strongman leader Mahinda Rajapakse will step down on Saturday from his disputed position of premier, his son said on Friday, signalling an end to the seven-week long power-struggle that threatened to shut the government.”To ensure stability of the nation, former president …(Rajapakse) has decided to resign from the premiership tomorrow after an address to the nation,” his legislator son Namal said. The announcement came shortly after the Supreme Court banned Rajapakse, 73, and his purported government from exercising the powers of the office they claimed since October.A day earlier, the Supreme Court opened the way for potential impeachment proceedings against president Maithripala Sirisena ruling that he broke the law by dissolving parliament last month.A seven-judge bench unanimously agreed that Sirisena violated the constitution when he dissolved parliament last month to prevent Rajapakse suffering a humiliating defeat on the floor of the House.Sirisena had also called a snap election nearly two years ahead of schedule. That was also cancelled by the courts.Namal Rajapakse said they will join a coalition with Sirisena who triggered the political crisis on 26 October by initially sacking prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and replacing him with former foe Rajapakse. Two of the country’s highest courts suspended Rajapakse till he could prove his legitimacy after he failed two no-confidence motions in the 225-member legislature in mid-November.The court rulings also meant that the Indian Ocean nation of 21 million people was effectively without a government and heading for a shutdown raising fears among international credit rating agencies and holders of Sri Lankan bonds. The country was taken by surprise when Sirisena sacked Wickremesinghe on 26 October, almost two years before his five-year term was up and called a snap election for 5 January.Wickremesinghe refused to step down maintaining that his sacking was illegal. That issue is currently being canvassed before courts.- New government -Political sources said Wickremesinghe was likely to be sworn in on Sunday morning, in a move that is expected to end the power vacuum. There was no immediate comment from Sirisena or his office, but an MP from his party, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, told reporters that the president agreed to the latest measures to avoid a government shutdown after 31 December. If the stalemate continued, we would have ended up without a budget for 2019 and the government would not have been able to function,” Abeywardena said.Earlier, Sirisena had refused to reinstate Wickremesinghe saying he had serious cultural and policy differences with him. However, sources close to both sides said they managed to sink their differences during a closed-door meeting on Thursday. On Wednesday, the legislature voted overwhelmingly to demand the reinstatement of Wickremesinghe. The leftist JVP, or the People’s Liberation Front, insists that Sirisena should be investigated for orchestrating what they call a coup and that there should also be an impeachment process.last_img read more
